Farewell For Now

I’d like to send a big thank you readers, and followers! I’d also like to send a huge thank you to Gateway Regional High School and the Football Team because if it wasn’t for me going there in 2010 I’d never had the chance to be able to have a dream like this come true. Finally I’d like to say thank you to Coach and my neighbor John Morris for letting me come over and bug you for an interview here and there for this blog and my other class.

I will be continuing this blog into next season because I found it fun even though I maybe will not be doing reporting every week but I will try. The type of posts I will be doing in the future will be game photos and maybe the occasional slideshow here and there if I get enough photos.

For all of you who are looking at this and you are attending Gateway or are in high school never be afraid to reach for your dreams because I’m doing that right now and I’m in college and if it may seem like a crazy dream, dream it anyway because if it is something you are passionate about dream about it and then make it a reality! Never be afraid to reach for your dreams and make it happen. Who knows you may end up working at a job you love and if you love your job you will never work a day in your life, is how the old saying goes.

While learning how to blog and sports journalism, I’ve learned that the littlest play can have a huge impact because in the crazy world of sports anything can happen, no matter how big or small the play is.

In my eyes I feel like my five best posts were my final post, https://gatorsofnj.wordpress.com/2013/12/19/final-project/

Final Project!!

A tale of two teams

At the start of the 2013 season for the Gators they had to play against the ever tough West Deptford eagles and gave the gators no chance to win the game with beating them 76-0. They were at home again against Paulsboro who also is a very tough team but the Gators were able to score 13 points that week.

Then they went on the road the first time all season to Collingswood who was like Gateway and had not won any games this season until this game when Collingswood had beaten Gateway 41-6, now the Gators had fallen to 0-3 the third straight year the team has done this. Then there was a glimmer of hope because the Gators were going to travel to Haddon Twp. Who were like the Gators not big in numbers either but again Gateway had fallen 27-8.

Would going against Audubon be the game that the Gators win? The green wave had jumped out to a 14-0 in the first quarter but in the second the Gators had come back with 14 points of their own just before halftime. But in the third quarter was the quarter that killed the Gators and they had fallen 21-14 but it was the closets game they had played all season and it wasn’t a bad one either.

Going into the Haddon Heights game like the Gators they were 0-5 and this gave the Gators a small glimmer of hope to break the streak or so they would hope but like in previous years Haddon Heights had ran all over Gateway and beat them 32-0. With an 0-6 record the Gators were trying to stay optimistic but it was hard when your doing things right but it doesn’t equal a win for the team.

Now Gateway was heading to Sterling High School who again was 0-6 and again Gateway walked out winless.

But with Lindenwold coming up Gateway had to prepare what was coming their way because it would result in a win. Lindenwold had been up 18-6 at halftime but what Lindenwold had done was they sat back on their heals and went through the motions and with Gateway being a team to jump on opportunities when they come they did they ended up scoring 25 unanswered points and which 14 of them came in the final two minutes of the game and it was how gateway had over come adversity and won the game! Talk about calling it a come back. “I’m really glad we won the game because going in 0-6 it was tough for the team to over come that and it was a good hard fought game on our side.” Said Head Coach Dunkun about the game and how Gateway played.

Now that the Gators had won their first game in almost two years they were going to play against Pitman in a non conference game the week after their win against Lindenwold would this be the first two game winning streak for the Gators? With Pitman they had two wins but they were a small school too and the numbers seemed to be on the Gators side because they had a two game winning streak going into the ever-important Thanksgiving game against Woodbury. The last time the Gators had won that game was back in 2006, could the streak for Woodbury be broken? Not exactly because the thundering herd ran all over Gateway and eventually beat them 52-20 it’s not that bad of a score but it was bad as in penalties wise.

With the 2013 season over with the Gators had two wins and eight losses, “With this being my first year of coaching we did better then I had expected and hopefully for next year since a lot of the same guys are coming back maybe we can build on this.” Said by Assistant Coach John Morris.

Preview for the Gateway-Woodbury Game

The annual thanksgiving football game between Gateway Regional High School and Woodbury High School is going to be at Gateway. This is the game that everyone who has went to Gateway or Woodbury comes out to watch because it is almost like a huge class reunion and it is tradition for alumni to go to the game. This is also the time that the seniors have one last game to play before they leave for college. Some may play while in college and some will not.

With Gateway and Woodbury there is only about a five mile distance between the two because Woodbury is the next town over from where Gateway is located. Depending on where you live you would have to travel through Woodbury to get to Gateway.

As for the game itself Gateway has a two game winning streak going into Thursday morning’s game, Woodbury is coming off a 2-0 playoff loss to Penns Grove. While Woodbury’s record is 5-4 they have lost to Sterling, Haddonfield and Paulsboro.

This will make for an interesting game for Thanksgiving morning.

This is all for now, but there will be more to come.

Going into Friday night’s game Gateway has a record of 0-7 and Lindenwold has a record of 0-7 as well. Hopefully The Gators can win this game even though it is on the road away from the Swamp.

During the game I will be tweeting and taking pictures to show how the night ended how it did.
